A few days, generally within a week if you stick to running daily dungeons, MSQ quests (main dtory, need to do to unlock everything) will give a huge chunk of exp as well. I recommend focusing on one job/class (after trying out the others of course, then pick a favorite) until 80, makes it much easier to level the rest of them.

Core mesmer is slow and often considered the most un-fun to lvl up to 80 (tho a lvl 80 mesmer with a proper build is fun) Revenants got a lot of buffs across all weapons and core legends as well as traitlines and are pretty good without any elite spec, but people still enjoy playing herald more than core revenant.
Then I got back and finally got my toon to level 80, (still no world completion) and when HoT arrived I went on another long hiatus of more then a year. Then I came back for some reason, did World completion, got really involved in HoT (made Astralaria) and since then I have never really left the game anymore.
